When you scan your library or fetch artist/album information does xbmc make any changes to your media files or is all the library information stored elsewhere?

XBMC does not touch your media files. All the data is stored in the databases (which reside in userdata/database)

Thanks for the quick reply. I have my sources added and content set for the folders, library set to enabled in settings, but I can't select it from the view options when in the video section. Library mode is grayed out and I can't check the bubble to enable it. Any ideas?
