Saving XBMC settings in case of a factory restore
#1
I have looked all over for this answer, and can't seem to find exactly what I am looking for, and, or I do not understand.

I have 400 + movies and overall, I do not like the quality of many of the thumbs that get downloaded via the database. I have high resolution thumbs for all my movies. I want to go into "Movie Information" and insert my own image in "Get Thumb".

My concern is, if I ever have to do a factory restore on the Apple TV, obviously I would lose all the work that I did in setting up XBMC. That would suck!

Is there a way to save my settings so that if this were to happen, I could simply re-import the saved file?

you can I think export your library information out of xbmc (see settings), and reset atv and then use the xbmc import function so it will rescrape exactly as you had it. I think it should pick up your added hir res thumbs then. You should test it first with a couple I guess.

or (which I would prefer)

keep your movies on a different computer/server, and for example use

Media companion

or
movie info plus

to scrape / catalog your movies just as you like it. Your high res thumbs will always be available then.

Then just add your directory as a "source" and xbmc will use this information when you scan it into your library. This is a great way to keep all your information if you have a large collection and you do not want to loose it.
