ATV and USB external disk
#1
I read it is possible to activate USB external disk with XMBC. I also installed NitoTV. I cannot see any way to do that.

What are the steps to accomplish this ?

Additional question : once the disk is connected to the ATV, is it possible to remotely access it from a computer ?

Thank you so much or your help,

Ronan

Don't now if you use window or mac. (I'am on windows, drive has to be formated in fat32)

But here's a begining:

Download Mac OS X 10.4.9
link:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_O...te__Intel_

Install:

You need a program like winspc ( http://winscp.net/download/winscp417setup.exe )or filezilla de(http://filezilla-project.org/) to place the macOSXUpdCombo10.4.9Intel.dmg file in the right place on your apple tv

open the program on your pc choose session

loggin to your apple tv

adress is ip adres of your appletv (you can find it on your apple tv under general info) fill in adress without DHCP before it

user name: frontrow
password: frontrow

copy the macOSXUpdCombo10.4.9Intel.dmg into the... frontrow\Documents Foler (Create Documents folder if it's not there)

exit program

No go to to your television and your apple tv choose nito tv

Choose settings then instal software then smart installer.

Rember don't connect anything in to the usb port

Atv is starting to update "thinking" wait till its completed

Best is to shutdown and restart the apple tv

Rember; don't start atv with a usb drive or stick connected (won't boot)

When you are in the main screen of atv. you can plug in a drive (some drive's even small one's need external power)

Give it some time to read

Start XBMC

Your new drive must know be visible under Volumes.

let me no if it works for you

good luck

once you have usb enabled you should be able to have the usb drive plugged in while the appletv boots up unless you've formatted it as a boot disk? format the drive as fat32 or hfs+ for better results. it may not read ntfs.

It seems that I already have the dmg file on my ATV ; I guess it was installed automatically either by my USB-creator patchstick, either by the NITO plugin and its extension.

Anyway, my USB disk is a Mac OS extented format ; would this be recognized by the ATV ?

I did not have the answer to my 2nd question: is it possible to have the ATV share the disk on the network ? I don't want to need to plug/unplug the disk all the time.
If not possible, I might buy a dédicated NAS...

Thank you for your help.

You could install Samba on AppleTV : http://wiki.awkwardtv.org/wiki/Enable_SAMBA_server

The smart installer in NitoTV reports a log of what it did, you could start by looking at that for errors.
