[FIXED] skipping forward not working with mythtv:// protocol?
#1
Hi guys

I have a short Q. Is it only on my machine or is skipping forward barley working with mythtv:// protocol? at the beginning of playback it seems to work well but after ~30-40 it stops responding..is it a known issue or something screwed on my machine?

thx in advance

Is the problem you are having with Live TV or playing back recordings?

Seeking in Live TV doesn't work at all because of the way it is streamed from mythbackend.

If it is when playing back recordings, how much CPU is being used when playing the video?

I've noticed that seeking seems to be much better towards the start of the recording and gets worse towards the end. Not sure if anyone else has experienced that though.

hi thx for the answer!

Yeah i have the problem you are referring to with the skipping usuablle at star and not responsive atll all as the video progresses. i dont think its a cpu issue since the machine is not that old (p4 3.0 Ghz 1.5 GB DDR) and the video is simply mpeg-2.

thx

Perhaps elupus needs to weigh in on this and give his expert opinion on this phenomenon.

I'm not sure it's related to the myth:// protocol. I just played one of the recorded .mpg files directly through XBMC and it too had very noticeable seeking delays (using BigSkipForward set to 210s) after about 30 minutes into the file.

Perhaps us Myth TV users notice it more because we try and skip commercials? Most other things I watch through XBMC don't really have anything that I need to skip over.

Yes, I'm still having massive problems with this. I wonder if it's somehow related to the video file size? Some of our recorded DVB-T streams are >6Gb in size.

I saw an update in SVN that mentioned some seeking improvements with >2Gb files, but perhaps there's still something that's not working as expectedHuh

Often when trying to skip commercials it simply won't do a big skip, or it will wait for ages (10+ seconds) before deciding to do something. Small skip is also affected.

Not sure what to do to progress a solution to this.

I've created a trac ticket at http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/6009

Well mpeg's are hard to seek accuratly in and i suspect libavformat (ffmpeg) could be doing alot of unneeded seeks. It could be some of my patches for it have yet again gotten lost in the last upgrade.
