In case anyone is wondering and hadn't tried it yet,
in the latest xbmc update (9.11-rc1-karmic2) from
the ubuntu karmic PPAs the problem still exists.

Glad to know that it was patched and works from the SVN,
good job xbmc team. I hope the ubuntu package will be updated
soon, there seems to be a lot of users using these nvidia cards.

As you can see on the website the build failed which is why it is not being used yet.

you can watch the site to know when the build has been completed successfully

Does anyone know how often then PPAs tend to get rebuilt? Currently the only version with a working PPA is Karmic

OK, problem solved after installing the latest xbmc
(xbmc - 1:9.11-karmic1) from the PPA. No more high
CPU load, the menu is very fast and the new skin is
awesome.
