6 channel aac to ac3 realtime encoding
#1
When I play back videos with 6 channel aac sound, it gets down mixed to stereo. Quicktime trailers are encoded that way sometimes. But when I play back videos with 6 channel ac3 sound, it gets sent out to my receiver as ac3 so it can be decoded there.

Is there a way for me to set any audio in a video to be encoded in real time to ac3 keeping the original channels without any downmixing? I know I can do this in windows with ac3filter. And I'd like to do this in linux.

Not currently.

phi2039 is currently reworking the audio output stages so that we can add stuff like this in an easily extensible manner. Still a fair way to go before it'll get to the point where it can address this. Good things (done properly) take time. Smile

Cheers,
Jonathan
