XBMC crashes while updating video library

Like mentioned above, xbmc crashes when I try to scan for new content. The folder containing the tv series is a (writable) smb network share mapped to drive m:. Scanning a folder (same share = same drive) containing several hundred video files did not cause any trouble.
Before I've tried a newer SVN build I used the official build, but the crashes remained.

XBMC: Version 8.10, SVN 18141
OS: Windows Vista x64 SP1
CPU: Core2 Q6600
Ram: 4 GB
Graphics: Intel G35, 7.14.10.1437
Sound: SB X-Fi XtremeMusic, 6.10.0.203

No crash indicated in the log. What are the symptoms?
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.
Do not e-mail XBMC-Team members directly asking for support. Read/follow the forum rules.

XBMC starts scanning for new content, then after a few seconds vista reports that XBMC has stopped working.
I've tried to run XBMC as admin and use the smb share directly instead of the mapped drive, but it made no difference.
