Can't Get XBMC To Startup !
#1
Hi

I started with version 8.10 off the downloads page but was instructed to get the latest SVN version fom the sticky. The reason was because I was unable to get XBMC to startup.

So I uninstalled 8.10 and got rid of all traces of it including the folder in 'Application Data'. I reinstalled with the latest available version and still wasn't able to get it to start. I noticed some other people in another thread had the same problem and they were told to delete the 'calibration' section from the guisettings.xml. I did that and am getting the following messages from the xbmc.log

Anyone know what it means ??

I'm sorry if my problem is noobish but I'm completely new to this program and I'm at a loss on how to proceed. I really want to get this going because I loved using this when I had my xbox but sadly had to make the jump to PC so I could play HD content.

Thanks,
Marcus

Try starting the xbmc.exe file with "-p" behind it.("xbmc.exe -p")

That did the trick for me when i had the same problem

Debug Log needed. You can set debug in AdvancedSettings.xml (check manual on how to do that).

I've created an 'advancedsettings.xml' (in the userdata folder) and entered the following into :-

<advancedsettings>
<loglevel>1</loglevel>
</advancedsettings>

Did I do it wrong ?, because the xbmc.log just produces the same results.

Thanks,

Umm.. That is different. It says:

14:13:05 T:3484 M:1099673600 ERROR: Error loading special://profile/advancedsettings.xml, no <advancedsettings> node

Sounds like you may not have set it properly even though what you pasted looks correct.

I just created it in notepad and saved it as advancedsettings.xml

Before I thought it was a openGL problem but I installed new drivers and am not getting the openGL message in the log anymore. So now I'm completely clueless.

Any chance of some help via msn messenger or something ? Big Grin

Ya, we got past that. His issue seems to be a driver issue... So it seems.

When I checked event viewer it was saying the error is to do with openGL (atioglxx.dll). I copied that particular file into the xbmc directory and I no longer get the same error in the event viewer but it has been replaced with something else.

Does anyone see anything they recognize in the xbmc.log below ?

ok so I realized my HD2400pro AGP just isn't gonna work with XBMC (openGL problem) so I may aswell sell it.

What cheap AGP card should I get that is compatible with XBMC ?.
