Help with RAI TV plugin and user agent?
#31
Yesterday i could not test the new version... maybe tonight.

I thought the problem for using internal player was mms streming.
So you say is user agent question...

Well, maybe this could be useful... It's a plugin for megavideo streaming.

http://www.xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42170

I tryed to make it works, but maybe changes on megavideo pages block it now.
Anyway, in the default.py you can see a row where something about user agent is specified.

Talking about player path specification, the best solution (I suggest) could be allow both browsing and manually specify the path (as allowed in "add source" window). I don't know if manual entering is only a need for me!

Hi Mitsus,
Thanks a lot for your offer! Any help is greatly appreciated!
This plugin is developed on the spare time and there is a lot to improve.
Have you tried out the latest v0.3 of the plugin on Linux? Would you like to write the installation notes and propose a recommended configuration on that platform?

Regards,

User agent manipulation from python is coming to XBMC shortly, stay tuned...

On latest SVN builds dvdplayer seems to support MMS-on-HTTP, so it's possible to play RAI videos without an external player. I tried yesterday and it works. More later.

Hi chrisXX,

How are you? Sorry fro being so late, but I had a lot of other stuff in these months... Now I'm home with (swine??) flu and I'm using my time to restart testing.

Your 0.3 version is ok with linux. It means that playing with external player (vlc) works correctly!
Some points I noticed (maybe not referred to the plugins, I don't know);
- i need to manually edit settings.xml, because by browsing in "plugins settings" i can't reach vlc path (it's a linux acces limitation i think)
- plugin configuration for RAM external player doesn't remain in memory, it keeps on reappearing Real Player windows path (even if i changed it in settings.xml!!!)
- internal player doesn't work (ok, we expected it, isn't itHuh eheh)
- i have problem with ordering. I did some upgrade with Ubuntu, and now programs are ordered by date, and i can't change it!!! and i don0t have any search or filter option. It's a little bit annoying

Any news about the use of internal player?? That would be the top!!!
Another ask... Did you ever thinked about live streaming? There are a lot of live channels played on rai web site, that would be interesting...

thank you for your work!!!

Here's my ugly, quick and dirty plugin for RAI TV archive videos. It uses DVDplayer, so it should work with any version of XBMC. Late build required (it works perfectly with Camelot alpha2, BTW). RAI streams are often slow, so be patient and make them buffer. Podcast items not supported.

Hi ghizzu!

i downloaded and tried it yesterday. It works! Good Job!
I use last Babylon stable version, under Ubuntu 9.04. XBMC run in standalone mode.

Some point i noticed:
- initial loading, as you said, is very very slow. More than I expected. And while loading, xbmc get completely freezed (the usual loading windows doesn't appear), mouse is freezed, etc...
- the shows "tree" as one more "level". I mean that I enter the show and can see the single "episodes". But they are folders again. Clicking i enter another level, where i can see only the selected episode as a video.

I didn't tried it with a lot of videos (only 2 to say the truth). I will say you if i find anything else noticeable!!

Good job and thanks!!

http://www.rai.tv, speed wise, is a pain in the ***, especially at night and in weekends. Nothing can be done about it.

Yeah, I know. Minor annoyment. The plugin was intended for personal use only, so no refinement. Of course plugins experts can modify it at will.

err... I meant to say

are you guys considering to extend the plugin in order to allow live tv streaming play, per my previous links above, too ?

Is it now feasible ?

"is this method working also for real time streaming"?

More or less. The trick is: the plugin must extract the direct stream link contained in the .asx file and pass it to XBMC.
Anyway, there is already a working plugin (by BlueCop) for RAI live streams. Since the original link is now invalid, I've taken the liberty to reupload it:

Oh my... where this came from ?
I've been looking for it...

Tried,
works great !
Thank you very much for the re-upload.
This would deserve a more visible space.
Now, I'm missing only SkyTG24... going to look for it !

Hi,
we are Italian and live in the Netherlands. We love the free video on demand concept and therefore we very much like rai.tv even if, when they switched from RAI click to RAI.tv the service deteriorated a lot. I also recently switched to ubuntu from Vista and discovered XBMC. It is fantastic and I am really grateful to you guys trying to develop this RAI.tv plugin.
I tried to use it, but the streams do not start (live streams are restricted to the Italian territory, but the other should work).
Can you help me? I would be glad to do some testing for you. I could also write installation instructions for Linux in English, once I succeed in getting it to work..
Thank you very much and congratulations for the good work!
