Try different configurations of boot up,

IE pwr on the TV First then the PC or vice Versa and try another HDMI cable if you have one on hand they can be troublesome.

I also have a p5q-em mobo and i'm afraid Interpid is a no go.
The version of the intel driver that comes with Interpid has little to no support for the G45 chipset. So i ended up compiling Xorg from git and also had to compile the latest Alsa from git to get audio over HDMI working.

With Ubuntu Jaunty everything should work out of the box.

Well guess Ill install Jaunty then. I have not problems with it until I output 1080i. Like I said earlier it shows large like on a computer screen picking 640x480 resolution thats the easiest way to describe it.

Can't help you with your 1080i problem i'm afraid. I'm using 1080p myself without any problems.

But looking at your xbmc.log, i'd say something must be going wrong here:

Maybe somebody else can take a look at this?

I didn't install 64 bit jaunty or intrepid. I tried intrepid and the screen flashes.
