Please let me know if more information is needed as I used the following link to provide the answers: "http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=42708"

Problem: When selecting a movie, the lower left corner of the screen shows a black box with play controls, but the movie never starts playing. Some movies do work, but many do not.

I initially discovered the problem with my xbox using the T3CH revision 9.04 Alpha released on 2009-04-04. I went back to the revision XBMC-SVN_2009-03-04_rev18221-T3CH and the problem went away. I run all files on my xbox through an SMB share connecting to Windows Vista x64 and thought SMB might be an issue, so I recreated the Sources.xml file, but that did not help.

I later decided to try on my Windows system so that SMB was fully taken out of the picture and noticed the same issue while connecting directly to the movies. I store my movies in IFO/VOB files, each under their own folder by move name.

It appears the files that have the issue are some of my older archives that are stored in single large VOB files and the ones that don't have the issue are stored in multiple VOB files, each being slightly larger than 1GB.

In the log, the two movies I sampled that failed are 4,086,858 KB and 3,868,426 KB respectively. The error I noticed from the log states: "WARNING: File is larger than 32bit stat can handle, file size will be reported as 0 bytes."

I have not tried the 9.04 Alpha on my Windows system, but the xbox and later SVN builds in Windows have the issue whereas the T3CH 18221 build on the xbox does not.

Thank you for the great product and keep up the excellent work!

I wanted to report that the Babylon Beta 1 builds are still exhibiting this behavior on both the xbox and windows builds.

Files downloaded and installed:
XBMC-SVN_2009-04-23_rev19585-T3CH-9.04-BETA1
XBMC_for_Windows-Babylon-Beta1

xbox log - http://pastebin.com/m119fdda3
windows log - http://pastebin.com/m36100a01

Note: I don't know why the Windows log file thinks it is still the Babylon Alpha, but I installed the just downloaded Babylon Beta Windows build twice and it says the same thing.

I have created a TRAC ticket for this.

Your logfile shows a mix of portable and normal mode. try deleting the profile.xml (or the whole userdata), remove -p from the startmenu link if there and try again.

Windows - http://pastebin.com/m278b106a
xbox - http://pastebin.com/m34f72c8f

On Windows, I delete profile.xml manually. That did not resolve it. I then deleted the userdata folders from both the profile and under program files (x86). That did not resolve it. I then logged in as my administrator account and ran the uninstall command from the start menu. I also removed any references left to xbmc in the profiles.

I logged in as the system administrator and reinstalled beta1. I started the program as the admin and setup the source. That did not resolve it.

On the xbox, I did not see a profile.xml file, so I deleted all the contents of the userdata folder and copied back only guisettings.xml and sources.xml. I tried the movie and it did not play.

I have attached logs for both the xbox and Windows builds for updated reference.

I have one movie, that is Pitchblack, that movie used to play before upgrading to Bayblon, and now I hear the sound of the movie, but the screen stays at the XBMC library.
The difference between this movie and my others are that it is one big vob file. It is around 6gig while others are combined of multiple vpb files that are slightly larger than 1 gig.

It's a known problem, and likely due to the libdvdnav/css changes.

The reason it doesn't work (I believe) is that such files do not satisfy the DVD spec.

Ofcourse, XBMC should endeavour to be able to play them anyway, so a comparison of the old and new dvdnav/css sources would be useful.

Cheers,
Jonathan
