Keyboard Issues

Question
Hi Guys,

I'm having issues with my Keyboard whilst using XBMC...

It doesn't appear to work at all within XBMC. Also, I'm not sure if this is related, but on the screens where keyboard input is required, an on screen keyboard appears, but there are no letters on the on screen keys.

I am using an IR PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse combo.

I have read some other posts, but none of them highlighted any solutions. I have posted my Xorg.0.log (http://pastebin.com/f31f2e6cf), and have also posted my xbmc-xbmc.log (http://pastebin.com/f1d28302d) this is after I have pushed a few keys.

Any help will be appreciated!

Linux Distribution and Version: Ubuntu Hardy 8.04
Architecture: i686
Install Method: Dedicated HTPC instructions on Wiki
SVN Revision: pre-9.04 r18761

start by upgrading to a more recent version of XBMC.
the missing letters on the onscreen keyboard bug has been fixed some time ago:

Thanks!

I've removed the splash screen which has seemed to fix the issue - cheers!

However, I've tried searching for an easy way to do an upgrade, but couldn't find one. Is it a matter of uninstalling all the old files, and pretty much following the guide from the start again? Or is there an easy command to upgrade XBMC to the latest one?

I'm also appearing to have sound issues, it works fine when playing movies, but when playing music, I don't seem to get anything :-(

Appreciate all this help!

sorted the sound issue out now with the fix posted:

Quote:# rename /etc/init.d/alsa-utils
sudo mv /etc/init.d/alsa-utils /etc/init.d/alsa-utils.x
# reboot your system
reboot
# rename /etc/init.d/alsa-utils.x back to /etc/init.d/alsa-utils
sudo mv /etc/init.d/alsa-utils.x /etc/init.d/alsa-utils
#start the alsamixer and activate iec958 output
alsamixer
