Best OS for XBMC if money no option?

natethomas Wrote:"Money is no option" is an American phrase commonly used in movies in the 1980s to indicate an unlimited price point. A non-slang phrase would be "The best system, regardless of price." Or, "I want to spend LOTS of money, if it means my system will kick butt."

Well I was just being a dick because it was a completely under-thought first post by someone who can't be bothered to search on a topic that's completely subjective to their own needs.

So again, "Money is no option" doesn't make any sense. The correct phrase is "Money is no object."

Oh zing! I stand corrected. I've never actually used the phrase myself. Also, sarcasm and irony don't typically work on message boards frequented by people whose first language is not English, because you have to take each of those individuals at face value.

Regardless of that, the question is one with merit. It's been discussed fairly regularly which is the best OS or which is the most cost effective OS, or even which OS is right for me, but I don't think we've touched on which OS is best with all the money in the world.

Of course, the answer to that question is the same as the answer to all the other questions: "It depends."

And if he has an unlimited amount of money, where do I sign up?

Unfortunately, as someone else said in a very very angry thread, if you have an unlimited amount of money, and you don't want to tinker with things.. skip xbmc, go buy someone to install a kaleidoscope system for you. With XBMC, you will need to tinker. However, to have to tinker the least, I think that xp is probably your best bet. Of course, if you have the right hardware, Linux would probably be just as easy (or at least easier in the long run) but there's no way of knowing that without a bit of research on the front end. ... so, you have to do the tinkering at some point, the question is: when do you want to do it?

I would say XBMC Live http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=XBMC_Live

That is what it is designed for Nod

Yes that is what I was thinking, too.

Does VDPAU acceleration work in XBMC Live, assuming you have the right hardware?

Yes, just do a search for "ion" on these forums, (the ATOM 330 dual-core CPU version recommend though).

Yes it does, out-of-the-box, just need to enable "VDPAU" under the settings menu.
