[LINUX] XBMC Live - Where can I set the nvidia-settings? -> Newbie-Alert
#1
Question
Hi!

Until yesterday, I had a running FreeVDR on an 8300 IGP (ASUS M3N78-EM).
This 8300 is a bit too less powerful to do 1080p out of the box, so I had to "tune" it a bit, as I only got around 19fps.
1) overclocked the GPU to 550MHz and Shader to 1500MHz.
2) did some nvidia-settings before start of XBMC (in rc.local):

nvidia-settings -c :1 -a OpenGLImageSettings=3
nvidia-settings -c :1 -a FSAA=0
nvidia-settings -c :1 -a FSAAAppControlled=0
nvidia-settings -c :1 -a FSAAAppEnhanced=0

With these settings, I got 24fps with a smooth and perfect HD-Playback.

Yesterday, I did a complete new install, as I wanted to be able to use newer builds of XBMC and do not use the TV-functions of VDR.
Took the how-to out this board, installed ubuntu 9.04 minimal-install and XBMC 9.04.1 and XBMC-LIVE.

Now I have the problem, that I don't know, where to execut these nvidia-settings lines.
rc.local has no effect (changed to -c :0.0).

Can someone help me?

Thanks.
Patrick

nvidia-settings depends on libgtk that is not available on Live as released, hence it does not start.
Install it via apt-get and your lines in rc.local will work.

thanks a lot, I will try this, when I'm back home.

Thank you also for this perfect guide for XBMCbuntu!
