I'm running XBMC live and just before it starts the HALD it starts playing a continuous really loud tone. This tone doesn't stop. Any ideas what is wrong?

When I run it using safe mode this doesn't happen.

try to remove "setvolume" from the kernel parameter using grub editing facilities. If successful you can delete the token permanently by editing the file boot/grub/menu.lst on the boot disk (USB?)
