Disappointed with Boxee for Windows! XBMC is way better.

I had been waiting for Boxee for Windows thinking it was the next step. I had it in my head that Boxee was the evolution of XBMC and XBMC would eventually die.

The interface is not nearly as smooth and the library is practically none existent. XBMC library and layouts that use the library data are way beyond boxee and look great. Now that HULU has its own great looking app with 100s of networks I can't find a decent reason to run Boxee. All of my downloaded content in XBMC and any other randon network shows, pbs, bbc, late night shows, cnet or whatever with HULU. Perfect

I feel the same. Boxee is a HUGE step back. Since I don't use streamed TV anyways it's not good for me. It's interface is slow, clunky and (I know its in beta but...) the streamed TV doesn't work half the time. Plus it wont detect your geographical location, which is very annoying for those streamed tv things that block content for the UK. (you get the programs on the list but cannot play them)

Mostly Boxee was an app for the set top box market, but cable providers in usa wont allow it, and it will not take off.

As soundwave would say...... XBMC superior, boxee inferior.

You are way wrong there, that is not the case for sure.

XBMC will still continue as its own project, some things might be shared with projects that fork XBMC (like Boxee or Plex) while other things will not. Team-XBMC has its own vision and XBMC as a product is still evolving:
http://xbmc.org/about/vision/

Team-XBMC consists of many more active developers than all forks of XBMC combined:
http://xbmc.org/about/team/

...so a fork definitely does not mean that the original project dies:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fork_(software_development)
Quote:In software engineering, a project fork happens when developers take a copy of source code from one software package and start independent development on it, creating a distinct piece of software.

PS! Off-topic; know that you can always use third-party content media servers such as PlayOn or TVersity Pro to get Hulu, Joost, Netflix and Amazon VOD, etc. into XBMC:

Thanks for the reference to TVersity. This looks like a fantastic piece. Do you have any experience whether it allows me to get access to my slingbox through the sling.com reference of whether it "only" allows for the sling.com content?

I personally have no experience with either PlayOn or TVersity, however on their website they state that TVersity Pro does support Sling.com, you might want to try searching and asking on their own forum first.

Thanks. Question is whether they only support sling.com content or also the mysling slingbox, which can be run on sling.com. Let me drop a note on the tversity forum.

Anyone on this board has experience with Tversity and even more importantly with its sling capabilities? The Tversity board appears rather "down", which doesnt appear too promising for ongoing development happening.
