Request for "Allowed error in aspect ratio to minimize black bars"
#1
Personally I would consider this a bug, but I'll give the benefit of the doubt that it's by design.

With the "Allowed error in aspect ratio to minimize black bars" option, it appears all it does is stretch the image vertically, but not horizontally (to keep the aspect ratio in tact). This seems pointless to me. There are times where I have a source that is just slightly below the 16:9 ratio and I would like to eliminate the black bars (which is essentially what a DVD does), but if it will make the image out of proportion, it's not worth using. I realize I could do this using the zoom, but it would be nice to not have to mess with that each time and just have it happen automatically.

So I guess the request is, have the "Allowed error in aspect ratio to minimize black bars" work as a "zoom", as opposed to a "stretch".

Can't you just set the 'Zoom' view mode as the default for all videos?

The problem with that is for 2.35:1 movies I would not want to remove the black bars. It would be for the 1.85:1 movies that I've seen that I suppose keep the aspect exact so there are slight black bars on the top and bottom. Thus, allowing up to a certain % as the 'Allowed error in aspect ratio to minimize black bars' allows you to do.

Perhaps an ideal solution is to allow the zoom setting to be applied only on 1.85:1 material.
