[LINUX] Switching over to Linux from Windows
#1
OK I put together this PC a year ago for my XBMC HTPC:
BRBN PC SHUTTLE SN68SG2 GF7025 RTL
CPU AMD|A64 X2 6000+ 3.1G AM2 1M RT
MEM 1Gx2|CORSAIR TWIN2X2048-6400 R
VGA ASUS EN8400GS SILENT/HTP/512M R
HD 750G|SAMG 7K 32M SATA2 HD753LJ
SPDIF Connector

With Harmony Remote to original Xbox IR controller:
[WINDOWS] HOW-TO setup the original Xbox DVD remote
Using Logitech diNovo Mini:
Keyboard and Mouse Combo

It works, but will sometime locks up, and @ 1080p plays with some shuttering and dropped frames.

I have hacked my old Linux DTV-Tivo a few years back, but that was only with step by step directions, so I am NOT a Linux guy at all...

I would like to have my PC boot from USB or other partition, into Linux-XBMC, but... with my configuration will I have any problems?
I will change my IR if need be, but please suggest new IR receiver.
And I though I read somewhere that Logitech diNovo Mini did not work on linux?

I see like 3-4 Linux/Live tutorials, With my setup what tutorial should I follow?

As always,
Thanks for your help.

I ended up install Linux with this how-to:
HOW-TO make a standard Ubuntu installation into 'XBMCbuntu' set-top-box style

Everything installed and XBMC is loading but i had a few error when installing my video drivers:
Code:
wget http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/185.18.14/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-185.18.14-pkg2.run
sudo chmod +x NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-185.18.14-pkg2.run
sudo ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-185.18.14-pkg2.run
I beleave it said something was missing with x.org... or something?
Is this normal?

Now when xbmc boots there is an issue with the video. I cant get 720 or 1080 to display properly, it only displays the top left of the screen in thoes modes.
I also do not have sound out of my SPDIF connector.
In addition My orginal XBOX ir receiver is not working.

Thanks for any help.
