DVR-MS over SMB
#1
I just switched to a Mac and starting to figure out how to play DVR-MS files recorded off Vista Media Center. The problem is that some file plays, some files do not. I can't figure out any reason why some of them don't play at all. It doesn't seem to be related to file size (some 8gb files play fine some don't) or file name. For example, 1 HD (OTA) recording of America Got Talent works, but another recording from the same channel does not work.

I have SMB sharing of the Recorded TV folder on the media center machine. On my Mac, I connected to the share just fine, I can access all the dvr-ms files. I'm running OSX 10.5.7 on the current generation (2009) Mac Mini, and XBMC 9.04.1 (SVN-20677M).

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: removed references to SMB in title, as that has been ruled out.
Here are some debug logs relating to the failed playing: http://pastebin.com/m2d8b8c5f
This is a log of a playable dvr-ms file: http://pastebin.com/m7b4ef44f

Use "MediaInfo" to check for differences in your files. Goggle for it, there's an app for all platforms.

I ruled out SMB by moving the files to my local storage, same results.

I also capture the info from Mediainfo, I don't see anything obvious, but maybe you guys can spot something.

I did some testing tonight, I was able to get 8.10 (Atlantis) to play all DVR-MS files. However, aspect ratio for HD recording is off, which isnt the case for 9.04 with the DVR-MS files that plays.

I tracked down this ticket: http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/5139 which is the fix to play DVRMS for 8.10. I'm not sure if this is the same issue currently, but I hope it helps debug it.

Let me know how I can help.
