hello,

i have some problems configuring my sound..

my amp is not capable of hardware ac3 decoding, although he has a digital in.

when using the stereo mode it works perfect, but whatever i try, i can't get the box to send the 5.1 from the ac3 decoded throught my digital in..

am i too dumb or is it impossible to do such things?

uhhh... no decoder but still wanting to have 5.1 output?
what does your amplifier support for inputs and more importantly, what do you want to achieve precisely?

ok ... here the long post.

i have a aureon firewire 7.1 external soundcard, which has an optical in, but no hardware ac3-decoder..

if i set my xbox to stereo i can hear it perfectly through the optical in.

what i want now is that my xbox decodes the ac3 sound and sends the 6channels throught the optical to my soundcard so i can enjoy full sorround sound.

having a read through the manual for your soundcard if you have it unplugged from your computer then it will only output in stereo mode. and from what i can tell you cannot use the xbox to decode the ac3 and then use the sound card to out put in surround, it uses the computer to decode the ac3 signal that it receives via the optical signal.
