What size tip did you use on your soldering iron? I've got a cheap 10W model from Rat Shack, but I can't get the tip in close enough without damaging the IR receiver module, it's a bit of a tight fit.

I did this a long time ago, and it served me well for 2 years. Your guide looks good.

While the Xbox remote isn't the most sturdy remote out there, it does what it's supposed to if you don't drop it

i have actually been trying to do this for a few weeks now, but i am not that great at soldering and its a super small work area to begin with.

I have a feeling I am going to be making a few trips to gamestop before i actually get one that works and isnt burnt to a crisp.

i think you can buy a xboxusb to regular usb converter for about 5$ on ebay. I've never tried it but it should work

I did the solder route and then bought the cables off ebay for $2.99 - so much easier and neater.
