No sound with nighlty build standalone mode
#1
Hello,

I've installed XBMC with ubuntu 9.04, and everything is fine, even when running in standalone mode.

But, after a upgrade to a nighlty build version (got from http://sshcs.com/xbmc), I get no sound in standalone mode (the sound is fine if I don't use standalone mode).

Does anyone have any clue about what could be happening?

well, there is the xbmc-standalone package that creates new session type in the GDM and the --standalone switch.

Then surely there are two different version so ecsousa, load up the one which works and check the audio hardware settings inside XBMC see if its set to default/iec958 etc.. then check your latest build see if they are the same..

Hello,

Well... first of all: by standalone mode, I mean to start XBMC directly from gdm as a session manager: so, after login, I would directly get XBMC.

Once again: if I first login to gnome, and run XBMC inside of it, everything will be fine.

I think this should have something to do with ASLA/Pulse: I think gnome starts some kind of sound service, wich XBMC standalone does not

So: the sound config is fine: it's set do default, and it's working with gnome, but not with standalone

Thanks,

You're probably experiencing this:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sourc...bug/352732

It has nothing to do with XBMC.

People have reported that this workaround fixes it:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sourc...bug/352732

I just remove Pulsaudio, ALSA works better for me and this bug doesn't happen when pulse is removed. Here's the guide I followed:
