Videos takes around 15 seconds to start playing
#1
Have build 23416 but this also happened with 9.04. When I go to watch any type of movie, there is a lag between when I push play to when it starts. Normally around 15 seconds. During this time I can't do anything else. If I use an external player (like mplayer) it starts instantly. Once the movie starts playing, it works perfectly fine, just takes a while to start. I have over a thousand videos in my library so I'm thinking this has something to do with it as it didn't happen when I first started using xbmc. Any idea what might be causing this?

win 7 ultimate x64
Q6600 (quad core 2.4ghz)
8gb ram
2TB raid 5

here is my suggestion: we have a flash screen whenever you login to the forums which nag EVERYBODY about how to post a useful request for help EVERY TIME. and subsequently ban anyone who doesn't. see my sig btw.

(this is the umpteenth time just today i have to post requests for logs et al - it gets to you)

when playing fringe s01e01, it played just fine. some videos that have been in the library a long time seem to work fine. when I played s01e06 which I just loaded, it took the 15 seconds to load.

read the instructions, not skim through them - that is not a debug log...

think I got everything that time

hmm, from that log it looks like what's taking the time is initing the ass font cache. this is however something that should only happen on the very first run.

wonder if its somehow borken on windows.

Think you're right. I just updated XBMC this morning and saw it loaded slow again but now when I play subsequent files with subtitles, the subsequent files load fine. Just that initial load. That wasn't the case before.

One day... the debug log's gonna be broken, then Spiff will finally be defeated!

I do enough tech support to know, users are stupid and fail to follow directions. We are all stupid users.

sounds awesome. I noticed that if I played several of the same shows files back to back (play stop next play stop next) there was no lag besides the initial load but if I watched the show, there would be lag on the next episode. sounds very similar in that it seems to forget about the font cache after a period of time.

wait for a build > r23481. There should be an updated libass from fontconfig 2.7.3 which shouldn't have this bug ...

If you are serious about fixing this problem .... How about this ..

When you post a new post, it will have manatory fields that must be fillled in if it was a bug .. ie Debug Log .. .Smile
The normal XBMC log IS NOT a debug log, to enable debug logging you must toggle it on under XBMC Settings - System or in advancedsettings.xml. Use XBMC Debug Log Addon to retrieve it.
