shut down ATV with TV..

I did a serch and found no reference to these power strips.

I know I'm not the only one that would like to turn off their Atv when they arent using it. Since we can have the Atv boot into XBMC on startup I figured this is a great idea. I use on of these in my MAME machine to control the tv in my arcade. I am going to order another one once I type this threadBig Grin.

These power strips have a outlet that is labeled "control outlet" This would be your TV. Other outlets on the power strip are "switched outlets". So what would happen is you plug the Atv into a switched outlet plug and your tv into the control plug. When your tv is on the Atv is on. If you turn off your tv the Atv turns off. The power strips have a way of sensing current from the control plug which turns on or off the switched plugs.

A lot of guys in the arcade community use the Smartstrip ones, but Amazon also has APC ones too.

I use an X10 controlled power outlet. The X10 device comes with a RF remote. Bang the button, off goes the AppleTV. Comes in real handy for my AppleTV development boxes, pulling the power cord got very old quickly.

something like this would work (http://www.smarthome.com/4040/Infrared-X...543/p.aspx) but by the time you factor in the cost of this plus the X10 power outlet device, a current sensing strip would cost less.

Ya, I think I'll stick with one of those strips I posted. For under $30.00 I think its worth it.

I have a huge x10 setup which controls my lights, my pool filter even my basement AC. I never knew this existed. Now I'll be able to turn off my ATV and adjust my theater room dimmers with my harmony remote. I got it on order....thanks davilla.

Now I just need xbmc to work with my ATV and broadcom decoder card and I'll be all set. Looking forward to the broadcom release of XMBC.
