I'd like to add my thanks for the blonde instructions. Worked perfectly and I now have the shiny new Apple TV v3 UI

I'm afraid that even though the blonde instructions were really useful I have been unable to install this file. I get this error:

-bash-2.05b$ wget http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/858897/XBMC/L...-debug.run
-bash: wget: command not found

How do I proceed?

Many thanks

I used the atvflash 4 by the way

Silly atvflash 4 patchstick not including the wget binary. Now you get to do a local download of the file, then scp it to the AppleTV.

I see two problems here. As already pointed out, it looks like the ATV patch stick didn't install the wget command on your ATV. My linux is very rusty but if you can get it somehow you can use a SFP client like Transmit on the MAC to copy it to your ATV and then use the procedure to do the download and install of Launcher 3.2. Hopefully someone more skilled that I can tell you how to do this on either a Mac or Windows and where to put it on the ATV directory structure.

If you manage that, my original post pasted the wget dropbox URL into this forum editor and it was "shortened" by the editor. The full, correct wget command is

"wget http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/858897/XBMC/L...-debug.run"

if you use the one in your post, it will fail since the middle of the Dropbox URL is missing.

FWIW.....

I tried to install Xmbc following the instructions in this thread but the last set of instructions did gave some sort of error. I am copying the terminal window contents.

Hi there

am facing a problem with getting passed this point, atv firmware is 3.0.1 now and no icon for xbmc/boxee, now since am not an expert in command line, I followed all steps and end up here. how can I execute the below:

get binutils.tar.gz, copy it to the AppleTV, unpackit (use tar) and copy (using sudo cp) to /usr/bin/

top will need a "sudo chmod +s /usr/bin/top" to fix it up.

I don't understand what this post is about.
Patchstick has got issues with 3.0.1 but once you install it you have ssh and from there you can fix the corrupted softwaremenu installation and put launcher in place
Have been running 3.0.1 since it was released without problems
Besides there is an option to stop OS updates in launcher once you are happy with what you have you should not upgrade if you only use xbmc or boxee
