This is an old issue fixed with Babylon but reappearing in Camelot...after launching XBMC the splash page appears then a blank screen. "Behind" the blank screen XBMC is running (its more difficult to tell now because of no navigation sounds) but if you can remember your menus you can exit XBMC to get back to ATV. Launching XBMV again will more often than not then go through.

edit advancedsettings.xml and change osx_gl_fullscreen from true to false and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks Davilla.

Done that and it seems to have worked.

I tried 10x and always launched the GUI..also mixed in returning from standby and launching after hard reboot of ATV. Worked every time. Also, and I can't benchmark this but, XBMC seems to launch and exit more quickly now?

Just wondered, has changing that setting reduced the quality of the video playback?

No, it's a different way that gets exclusive access to the display when in fullscreen. Typically only the AppleTV needed this but I'd rather figure out why it seem the vsync is not being applied in 10.6 with the original method.
