I was on 10.04 Lucid with Dharma and all working ok. I used X3lectrics dkms solution to get the remote working and it was all good. However the temptation to upgrade to 10.10 for the TRIM support was too great. After the upgrade no remote. Lots of errors when installing the asrock maverick driver. References to dkms and incompatible kernel modules/symbol tables.
As I didn't really understand exactly what the original solution was doing I struggled.
I managed to fix, hope this helps someone else:
- sudo dpkg --clear-avail
This got rid of a lot of warning messages that popped up every time i tried to do anything with lirc
-sudo apt-get remove lirc
-sudo apt-get install lirc
- sudo apt-get remove lirc-modules-src
-apt-get install lirc-modules-src
-dpkg -i lirc-nct677x-src-1.1.0-ubuntu10.10.deb(from the asrock driver zip)
-dpkg -i lirc-nct677x-1.1.0-ubuntu10.10-kernel2.6.35.deb
dpgk-reconfigure lirc
After this, irw from /etc/init.d was working ok showing button presses and with a reboot the remote for xbmc was fine.
I'm not really that clued up about linux so don't know the neccesity for installing both src and 'standard' modules. Perhaps if someone else knows what they're talking about they could explain for the benefit of those of us who are ignorant!

You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.
I've been struggling with my 10.10 install of XBMCLive and the Asrock remote for months now, and thanks to you it all works perfectly.
Much appreciated!
