[MINI MAC] 9.11a2 Playback out of sync
#1
I've just download 9.11a2 to my ATV and mini mac.

The ATV works fine (actually, works really well), but when playing back the same video on my mini mac, the video and audio come out of sync - due to slow video playback.

Found this out on a fresh boot.

Any ideas or suggestions??

come on, you know the drill. post xbmc.log to a pastebin site. We don't guess.

Turn off software upscaling, A Mini - 2ghz Intel Core 2 Duo does not have enough CPU to handle it.

Really...never had issues with it before?

ed:
Okay, if the 2ghz mini can't handle it now, would the 2.26 be any better? What would suggest would be the minimum in regards to hardware (such as cpu/memory/video) to get this to work again??

Before what, upgrading to 10.6 or to 9.11.a2 ?

2.26/2 = 1.13 or about 13 percent faster CPU. Software upscaling takes lots of CPU and my personal opinion is not worth the effort. Let the GPU do the upscaling instead of all these fancy upscaler that just edge enhance and blur to hid the resulting ringing.

Too many dependencies to predict, what upscaler algorithm, what video size are you upscaling, what display size are you upscaling to? Right off the bat, you have about 20-30 different combinations.

Sorry, keep forgetting you guys aren't mind readers.

Was working fine before install 9.11a2, had the previous "official" release.

Generally, original video is at SD (576i) for PAL or smaller. Wish to upscale to the full screen which is something like 1920x1200...please don't laugh...

I'm kinda surprised that the ATV doesn't miss a bet but the mini (which in theory has a faster cpu) can't handle it.

I now you've probably got better things to do, but I do appreciate your input

9.11a2 on ATV is not doing any upscaling. It's disabled in the code (http://trac.xbmc.org/changeset/24356) .

Again, the GPU will do a good job of scaling video content to display size. Try it. In your case, the setting is on guisetting.xml in userdata dir.

Suppose you can't be a little more specific...what element am I looking for and what am I changing it to?? Throw me doc page if you like, a little reading won't hurt Wink

find highqualityupscaling in guisetting.xml, set it to 0.

grep highqualityupscaling ~/Library/Application\ Support/XBMC/userdata/guisettings.xml

Bingo!

That seems to have fixed it.

I will continue testing and see where it takes me.

Cheers for all the help!
