Does XBMC do real time Dolby or DTS encoding?

Does XBMC do real time Dolby Digital or DTS encoding? For example if I'm playing a movie with 5.1 channel audio that's not DTS or Dolby Digital (for example AAC audio), will XBMC encode the audio into Dolby Digital (or DTS) and bit stream that over the SPDIF link (if I have "Digital Audio" and "Dolby Digital Capable Receiver" option enabled)? Or is this left to the audio drivers to handle. If it's left to the drivers to handle can anyone confirm if the ASRock ION 330 is able to handle this scenario?

Thanks,
Harry

no. you can do it on the sound system level (alsa). probably possible in windows/osx but i have no idea on those.

You mean by using the A52 Alsa plugin? I thought that didn't work too well with XBMC? Or is there another method I'm not aware of?

Thanks,
