freezes... crashes... on Mac Mini PPC

Sad
Unfortunately it seems that the beta1 is much less stable than the previous release on

OS X 10.4.11 on a Mac Mini 1st generation (PPC)
beta 1 release of 9.11
installation through .dmg

I could not make an extensive test to tell you exactely where (perhaps related to the new skin or to the use of the RTMP protocol?), but after a few minutes it appeared clear to me that freezes and crashes make this release hard to use in the way I would like to.

I am confident that everything will be ok in the production release and many thanks anyway!

These are the logs I can provide at the moment:

http://pastebin.com/f1c1e00 (XBMC.crash.log from 2 crash events)
http://pastebin.com/f1724a662 (xbmc.log related to the 2nd crash)

PS: After the install, the software said "Choose Application - Where is ScreenSaverEngine?"

Just installed on my PowerBook 10.4.11 + XBMC 9.11 beta1.

1) I got the "Choose Application - Where is ScreenSaverEngine?" when starting XBMC
-> this will be fixed in next release (thanks davilla ;-)

2) Otherwise, I haven't got any crash... I have been playing several videos from justin.tv without problem

Could you describe what you were doing when having the crash? Can you reproduce it?
Maybe it's worth trying to move the directory ~/Library/Application Support/XBMC and check if you have the same behavior after restarting XBMC. You might have pb due to some old settings...

I thought that XBMC on my mac mini (1.42ghz, OS 10.5) has been running better with the beta release. I have had a few crashes - mostly on plugins - but not as much as in the past. (Some of the NBC Universal and CBS plugin videos have been the ones to crash). They crashed when I tried to play some of the USA videos in NBC Universal and Amazing Race in the CBS plugin.

Thanks for the great work Beenje. If you want, I can post a proper log and details about the crashes.

FYI, XBMC 9.11 beta 1 is working fine on my PPC Mini. There were a few crashes immediately after starting it for the first time, but since then it's been pretty solid. Now, if it could only handle h.264 better.... Smile

I'm also running XBMC 9.11 b1 on a Mac Mini 1.25 ppc, Mac OS X 10.5.8
I experienced a few crashes when playing around with some plugins, but the rest of XBMC works fine for me. Also haven't yet exeprienced any issues wih the new skin.

@Ulm01, could you share some experiences with h264 on your Mac Mini? I'll start an own thread for it

Thanks Beenje! I believe XBMC for Mac PPC is a great piece of software and I will continue to experiment and use it.

I followed your suggestion to reset all configurations by removing the ~/Library/Application Support/XBMC directory and the system seems stable now (apart from an initial crash http://pastebin.com/f2caeab02 - http://pastebin.com/f4716de5a)

Despite experiencing few other crashes, I believe it is when I was testing other plugins else than justin.tv, with some crashes also related to the problem http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...ht=looping, i.e., they may have been a side effect of multiple short repetition of pressing the "Enter" key.

Unfortunately I do not have so much spare time to make a more precise analysis, but I can continue to test XBMC and post my logs if you believe it is helpful for you.
