beta 2 + karmic, slow + hanging. Anyone else experiencing this?
#1
Just trying to get a feel if anyone else is experiencing this. With karmic, beta 2 and nvidia-190 xbmc will hang for extended periods of time at random when attempting to start a video (which generally forces me to kill the process instead of wait for several minutes). The format/container of the video doesn't seem to matter, although they are all hosted over a samba share mounted outside of xbmc with smbmount. Also, exiting xbmc takes quite a while, ~10 seconds each time, not sure why. Never experienced any of this in 9.04 and previous versions of xbmc on the same hardware.

Experiencing exactly the same problem on an ION Asus board with karmic and Nvidia 182 and 190 (tried both). The problem also appeared with beta 1 but not on the alpha release. I can play the first video without any problems, but then can't close or exit XBMC and can't play any more videos. All of the videos are hosted on an ext4 file system on the local machine.

Have you tried installing the proprietary Nvidia linux drivers if you do not have them installed ?

The version number 190.42 implies that these are the drivers from Nvidia. These drivers are mandatory for beta 2 so I installed them before installing XBMC beta 2. The annoying thing is that it is not possible to kill the xbmc.bin process without logging in from an external device.

I am starting XBMC, going directly to play a video for a few seconds (it´s a divx video), leaving the video and trying to exit XBMC. After pushing the exit button XBMC freezes. It also freezes when I try to play any other video after leaving the first video.

Here I have 2 logs: the first one is from starting XBMC and leaving it without playing a video - everthing is ok here:

I hope that helps, thanks a lot for your patience !!

Think I found the reason for it. It's because of the XBMC audio settings. I changed the audio settings to analog. Before it was set to digital, IEC958. The strange thing is, that the sound comes out via HDMI as it was before, but XBMC does not hang any more.

Thanks to all of you !
