mpg4 (.avi crap container) is not supported with vdpau in the IONS.

If you read the trac ticket (link above), it hasn't really been "fixed" as such, but VDPAU is disabled for xvid in the newest SVN. This is a decent workaround for now, because at least it means you don't have to turn VDPAU off and on in the interface depending on what content you are playing.
It looks like a real fix (including VDPAU for all supported types) is going to depend on ffmpeg.
