I have a working Xbox DVD playback kit and would like to disassemble the IR receiver and convert it to a standard USB port. I have experience soldering so this is not a problem. Anybody know of any guides out there to accomplish this? I know they make a cable that converts it, but I want it to be clean looking.

Since LIRC supports the Xbox remote, I should be able to use my Harmony 880 with it without an problem, correct? IR Receiver is a IR Receiver (as long as it's not an IrDa receiver Smile

) right?

Yes it works. The forum search would've found you this information as well as more than one set of instructions on how to do it. The harmony will be fine with either the Xbox or Media Center Extender for Xbox profiles. The latter giving you a few more keys to work with.

Also, my search was for "modify xbox dvd dongle" but I didn't get any hits.

You don't want to open that thing up, it's a bitch. Desoldering the connector is even more of a bitch. Just cut a USB cable in half, rip one of the ports out of the xbox and match the colors. Yellow on the xbox port isn't used in real USB. I've done both ways, the latter due to the experience with the former and I'm handy in these situations.

I was referring to the actual setup of the device with lirc in my previous comment.

Thanks for the pic. Here are some additional links I ran across with Pinouts for the dongle. I just wish somebody made a tiny IR receiver that was readily available for sale to the public. Seems like something you could pick up at Radioshack, but even they don't have IR receivers, at least in my area. Large dongle with cable attached to Revo is not pretty, but it gets the job done. Thanks again for the info.
