here is a pattern i can repeat.

1) start xmbc, playback of any video work

2) kill xbmc, start up any other program (mythtv, firefox...)

3) open up xbmc again, playback of any video causes xbmc to hit 100% cpu and freezes

only way to get it to work is to reboot. one other thing i noticed is that the menu sounds don't seem to work after the i restart xbmc, only on clean reboot do i get movie playback.

i can't find any stale files or running programs that could be causing this, nor anything in the log files that give me something concrete to look for.

any thoughts?

this appears to be an issue with pulseaudio.

if i kill pulseaudio, restart it, i can get xbmc to play videos. from the logs it does appear that the freezing issues happen around audio issues.

any ideas how i can fix this without the above workaround?
