Slow Video Playback on my Laptop

Exclamation
Hey folks, I just installed XBMC last night with all the default settings. When I go to play a .MKV file, the XBMC player stutters while a 720 movie plays. I have never had a problem with any type of files in the past. I can play it just fine with VLC.

Here are my specs:

CPU: 2.0-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5800
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Hard Drive Size/Speed: 250GB/5,400 rpm
Graphics/Video Memory: Intel GMA 4500MHD/1.7GB

I am doing anything wrong or do I need to update anything or tweak some settings?

See http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=1080p_playba...ses_frames though I'm surprised you're getting problems with a 2GHz Core2 Duo. I use a Mac Mini with a 1.86GHz Core2 Due and it can play 1080p with only occasional dropped frames. If you run Task Manager while you're playing a video what CPU usage does it show? To check the CPU you need to run XBMC full screen for a minute or so then quickly close XBMC and check the graph of CPU usage. Running XBMC in a window does allow you to see XBMC and Task Manager at the same time but it isn't representative as it is always slower than full screen.

Also check the "Fake full screen" setting as described in the artcile above.
