[AppleTV] Apple TV + XBMC + Analog TV Output = OK?
#1
Question
I have an analog TV. It has S video and component inputs for picture. Also the standard red/white/yellow RCA inputs. No HDMI. I don't want to buy a digital TV right now.

I have seen that the ATV pillorizes wide screen input. I don't want that.

What I want to do is use the ATV, run XBMC, and hook it up with the component output/input. Also use external USB drive as source of my video/music/etc. I see where this latter is possible. Will using XBMC fix the dimension problems?

Would there be an advantage to installing Linux + XBMC on the ATV box? If it works better, I don't have a problem with that.

I have searched and googled, but can't find a definite answer. Thanks for your help.

XBMC has a video calibration screen that you can use to stretch etc the video output to whatever you like for the most part.

You might want to read this post as I was unsuccessful on getting composite (your s-video) working with XBMC and one of the dev's explained why. Not sure if your component connection would be any different.
