I purchased an apple tv today. I believe it has version 3.0.1 of the apple software. I plugged it in and the apple part connects online and plays trailers without a problem. Here are the instructions I followed in attempting to get xbmc to work on the apple tv.
- Used a 8GB USB stick
- using Disk Utility I erased the USB stick selecting the file format Mac OS Extended
(journaled)
- downloaded the Apple TV 3.0.1 firmware from:
http://mesu.apple.com/data/OS/061-7491.2...Z694-6004-
003.dmg
- Opened atvusb creator 1.0.b10 2
- Clicked 'Choose a DMG' and selected the freshly downloaded firmware
- Clicked apple tv version 2.x
- Clicked 'Create Using ->' (make sure you have selected the USB stick)
- Once done:
- Unplugged the Apple TV. Inserted the patchstick into its USB port. Plugged it back
in
- Once the patching is complete (a lot of text on the TV, the last output will be
"Hostname: appletv.local .... "), do this:
- Unplug your AppleTV. Disconnect the patchstick. Plug the AppleTV back in.
The apple tv started without a problem, I can use the little apple remote and again select trailers without a problem. I noticed a new "software menu" in the menu list but I cannot select any items in the drop down for the software menu selection. I try to click on settings or scripts and I just get a beep sound and nothing happens, I can continue to use the other features of the apple tv, but I can't select anything in the software menu.
I tried to rebuild the usb key again and reload it in the apple tv but the same outcome happened. I also tried rebuilding without selecting the recently downloaded dmg but that did not help.
Can you please tell me where I am going wrong?
