[AppleTV] Issue with H.264 videos when using Broadcom Crystal HD?
#1
I installed the Broadcom today, everything seems like it is installed properly. I used the auto-installer available and am able to see and select the Broadcom Crystal HD as the Render method. I have the latest nightly, and my AppleTV and XBMC are at 720p (note I have tried 1080p on the appletv and it made no difference)
I am seeing the following issue, when attempting to play H.264 video files, my screen does not switch over to the video, it stays on the current screen and the background flashes (note the foreground does not), so for example in confluence the fan art in the background will flash (really more like a pulse). The audio comes through fine, xvid, and avc1 all work fine. If I switch to software as the render method everything plays as expected. Note these are H.264 NON-HD files.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Knowing the xbmc version number might help but you cut the log and I can't see it. Also a MediaInfo output of the file in question would be good too.

As a followup, I am pretty sure that the card is working properly. I have a few 720p videos shot with my DSLR (Canon T1i)that play flawlessly when rendered with the Crystal HD card, when trying to use the software renderer they are essentially unplayable.
These are in the .MOV format and is supposedly H.264 as well.

*Clarified*
The movies that are giving me issues are all H.264 .avi. I can't seem to find any .m4v that show as H.264, I will keep looking.

I tried playing around with settings in video and audio to no avail.

All my m4v based files are AVC1, they all work perfectly fine, as do DiVx, XVID, ISO and MOV files.

Here is mediainfo output for a .m4v file that plays fine:

I can try to cut it up, thought I need a piece of software that will cut it up and still leave it in the same format, any suggestions?
I don't have a place to host it, can you suggest one?
I won't be able to do this until tomorrow night though.

You can use dgsplit to create a sample (probably 50MB or so would work I would think) and you can upload to mediafire.com.

** Make sure you are running AV as I've been hit with random drive by ad trying to exploit pdf when using mediafire in the past.

Edit: dgsplit is a Windows tool. Keep forgetting I'm also in a Mac forum.

Thanks for the info. I am using a Mac though, it seems like dgsplit is windows only.

This is exactly the same problem I had with my first card, as mentioned in this thread. I just thought that it was a case of bad hardware but maybe it is a software issue
