Samba server on aTV with XBMC ?

I am helping out a friend that needs a simple HTPC
Since I am a long term XBMC (for XBOX) user I would like to recomend them to use XBMC as their solution. Going for a Macmini is a bit to expensive for them so why not use a aTV.

I am very much a rookie on Apple stuff so I need to ask. They will not be running a NAS or computer with storage on it (SMB), they need to store all files on the aTV. Using SSH/SFTP is a bit to complicated for them I would say, but I ran into this:
http://wiki.awkwardtv.org/wiki/Enable_SAMBA_server

It shows how to make the aTV act as a Samba "server" effectively making the aTV a "small" NAS. Will as above solution work even if the aTV is running XBMC ?
(I cant see why it shouldnt but I need to ask...) If this works they can use their Windows PC and access the aTV HD as a normal disk I guess.

Yeah it works, no problem. I currently have the Samba Server, SABNZBD+ 5.0rc3 Usenet downloader, Transmission 1.33 daemon + Web interface, CrystalHD lib/kext, AFP server, USB enabled (which I have a massive drive with all my TV/Movies that my ATV can share across my whole house via SMB and AFP since it is low-powered and always on). It all runs at once along with XBMC 9.11 (or bleeding edge SVN builds which I need for CrystalHD support) or even Latest Boxee Beta without any problems. The ATV's got more horsepower than a lot of moaners and whiners give it credit for! I love it!

PS yes the advantage of having both AFP+SMB running is that Windows boxes play well with the SMB shares and the AFP shares show up automatically on OS X boxes. Totally versatile little bugger. But, you'll want to teach your friends how to use SSH though - you can't seriously administer any remote box like a NAS without getting some command-line chops.
