[RELEASE] Rom Collection Browser - Browse and launch emulator game ROMs
Ok, Malte, I did this morning another nfo based on MobyGames for "gamestaff", was more complete, take a look and tell me your opinion, I not put all members of staff.

Page in Mobygames

nfo

On the parental rating would be a nice feature for games like "xxx (porn)," for example, more common in pc, but there is some That Also Has Other platforms!
Thanks for adding to the future!

Code:
"C:\Program Files\XBMC\XBMC.exe" -p
But it sounds like you have already.

Yeah...I will keep playing around with it.

Ok. This could be implemented with the next bigger database redesign. I want to add some more stuff to RCBs database and this could be useful, too.

thanks!

what you want to add in a next database?

The only question I have is how do you seemlessly transition back to XBMC after you're done playing a game? I'm using SNES9x for example, and when I'm done, I usually take my mouse, close it out and maximize XBMC again.

Am I missing something?

I forget if it was in this thread or somewhere else, but I got the program Joy2Key to use to hit alt-f4 to get back.

I just set up the emulator keys first, then enable the program and map it to the keys. For the 360 controller I use, I have select as alt, and click the left analog stick as f4. It's a pretty awkward combination and I haven't hit it by accident yet.

I haven't started trying ps2 and up emulation yet (stopped at ripping my psx games and n64 era), so I'm not sure how well it'll work on games that are going to start needing more buttons on the joystick.

At some point I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get a small wireless keyboard/mouse deal, as it is now I still have to scuttle up to the tv to fix things from time to time.

You can check my TODO list for planned changes (but ignore the version numbers).

There is one chapter "Data model" that lists the planned db changes. (Some may also hide between other changes, the list is not very accurate)

Hey Malte,

On the To Do list I read this that the pub/dev bug is done. Does that mean the pub/dev bug in nfo files with mobygames scraper is solved and available?

New test version available: 0.9.8

List of changes:

General:
  • Add action 92 (backspace) to close dialogs

Import Games:
  • bugfix: Developer and Publisher not available in nfo files
  • set path to nfo folder
  • export nfo files on demand

You can set the path where RCB should export/import nfo files in Addon settings now. Just set the global path, RCB will create sub folders for each Rom Collection.

To export your current game database to nfo files you can use the new context menu option "Export game database (nfo files)". Note: This will not overwrite any existing nfo files. Atm you have to delete your nfo files if you want to create new files (overwrite option will come with the next release).

Note to Aeon MQ3 users: The new context menu option is not yet available in Aeon MQ3. To export your nfo files switch to Confluence skin, export your nfo files and switch back to Aeon MQ3 skin. (I have to inform MarcosQui on these changes but this has to wait until the new RCB release is ready for the repo).

Note to Eden users: In normal release plan this is version 0.9.8. But I had to use a higher version number for RCBs latest version in Eden repo (1.0.0). So if you already have installed RCB via Eden repo XBMC will not update RCB to version 0.9.8. You have to uninstall RCB version 1.0.0 first before you can install 0.9.8 from zip file.

Previous version: 0.9.7

Fantastic Malte, I will try this asap. Looks like some very very nice new updates.

Malte, I have another suggestion regarding exportation (I am a game info freak you know ;-). You say you will be adding nfo overwrite functions in the future release. But how about this :
Let's say that for a game a good description is available at moby games, but the staff of that game is only available at the gamedb site or something like that. Would it be possible to build in some kind of update function of the nfo files. I mean, instead of overwriting an nfo file, or the actual game info screen in xbmc, the RCB tool checks which fields are still empty for a game, scrapes the new site(s), looks up this info and ADDS it to the nfo file. This way, we could automatically have RCB build the nfo files as complete as possible.

It is just a suggestion Malte, if this is too hard, don't worry. I'm already very very happy with the current things you have made. Just something I was thinking about yesterday.

Cheers,
Maarten

It kind of behaves this way already. If you do an import with more than one scraper (e.g. mobygames + thegamesdb) RCB will mix all data from all scrapers. If scraper 1 has no developer info but scraper 2 has it, then RCB will use the developer info from scraper 2.

This does ofc not work if you make one import only with scraper 1 and on the next day another import with scraper 2. This might indeed be an idea for a later release.

You are correct Malte. Stupid of me. The way it works now is good. I'm gonna try the new update now. keep you posted...

EDIT : Exporting works great. thanks a lot. Lets hope Marcus adds themenu option real soon in MQ3...

Hi Malte,

I have another suggestion. Would it be possible to add a counter per collection? This way we can see how many games are imported into XBMC. A bit like the movie/tv shows sections in XBMC.

Thanks for the feedback. Atm I am not waitig for Marcos (he doesn't even know about the change) as I have to fix some more things on my side before I can submit a pull request to the repo. But I hope I will be ready soon.

This is a task for MarcosQui. In Confluence skin the counter is already available, in AeonMQ3 it has to be implemented by Marcos.

So it already exist and just needs to be implemented by the skinners?

Malte, I need some advice. Since the update yesterday I really started using RCB again (because now I can save all the work in NFO files). I implemented a collection of roms using the scrapers for the nfo files. My artwork I have on hd (from emu movies). After implementation I saw there were like 100 games from the collection who did not have an nfo file. I need to check this deeper but I think no info was scraped for these games. I also have some games without a cover for which I could use the scrapers in xbmc perhaps.
My question now is, is there a way to re-scrape these games or the whole collection without overwriting everything? How would you currently do this? I was thinking of moving my nfo file to another location to keep them safe, then do a complete re-scrape using other scrapers, than copying them back and overwriting the ones I already had?

What do you think?

thanks,
Grave

Yes, thats it. Count is available as "Container.NumItems" for skinners.

By default RCB won't overwrite anything. No artwork, no nfo files. Also RCB won't rescrape any games that are already present in database. So it should be easy to rescrape missing games. If you are looking for missing screenshots you must enable Always rescan imported games to rescrape games that are already in database. This is not very handy atm as you have to rescrape the whole collection although you just want to update some single games. I will implement a better handling in the future but can't promise when this will happen.
