Hi,
some years ago I made a little box, based on a via Epia Mini-ITX, one of the firsts cards with this form-factor, at this time, there were no case to suit theses little cards. So I made one :
It was in 2002 !
Actualy I was needing a box to read HD contents with a easy use and a Great look'n feel (XBMC is there!)
So I decided to made a custom case for a Mini-Itx Atom-ION motherboard.
I didn't choose a commercial case because I would:
-get some place to add eletronics stuffs (IR receptor inside the box, with another card)
-I would a nice box, without CD slot and minimal size (ok Multimedia readers and nettop are smallers but...)
So I choose my Hardware:
Motherboard Zotac ION 330 (a shame for the unexistant wake on lan !!!)
1GB of ram
8GB usbflash
little 5cm fan
All my contents are reached over the network.
First I made a test with blender:
(the height is 1cm too thin )
I use Plexiglas of 6mm, which I bend on a pipe with a heat-gun.
for the un-transparent aspect I just use a rotative sander.
And here is the result:
As you can see I made a little logo with XBMC !!!
The realisation isn't perfect, and maybe I would made a 2.0 : )
For the software part I use a ubuntu 9.10 lighted with a XBMC standalone.
So I can use a normal desktop AND a powerfull XBMC.
With this box I can read x264 at 1080p with hight bitrate without a lag ! and without tearing !!
voila : )
