[LINUX] Problems with frame drops jumps (consume packet error)
#91
majkelos Wrote:guys, I have disame problem.
click "o" when play movie and noticed drops specially after bitrate goes up from 11-12mb/s to 20-22mb/s
I have noticed that there is simbol "pc:24" changing to "pc:none" righ after drop frame, then again goes to pc:24 after couple seconds

If I remember correctly this is just the system describing how its dealing with the frame rate, 24fps on a 24hz (or multiple) display usually says 24 or 1 if I recall. Probably more details in the wiki but thats blocked where I am at the moment.

I think most people are holding on for the new release now. Although I read in another post that it seems this will require a libvdpau update, not good for me since that will mess up my mythtvfront end installation or necessitate an update to the latest version of myth on both my revo front end (where XBMC lives) and therefore the backend server box.

ARGHH

Anyhoo, I've minimised my issues but still get this problem if using VDPAU to play back DVD h264 encodes on NTSC 23.97 FPS movies. Switch to software rendering (not an option on the revo for 720p plus material in H264) and the problem goes away so its something connected to VDPAU under XBMC on linux for me but after much, MUCH tweaking I've got a stablish system and I'm holding on for the new version.

Any devs I'm happy to be told I'm talking cobblers regarding LIBVDPAU updates if I've got the wrong end of the stick ... pleaseHuh?

I Also have problems with avi files at 23.976 (using software). I dont get the same error as when i play mkv files but its still dropping frames.

And if you try to convert your mkv 23.976 movies to 25 fps it will play smooth without any frames dropping.

So something is wrong when playing 23.976.

If I had to guess, and I'm not expecting a solution here since there's no pastebin log or anything, I'd say looking at my output log that its somehow connected with video output having no way of catching up when a frame gets lost or a video playback issue occurs (I'm using drop/dupe audio for sync so its not an audio issue).

I noticed mpg files play fine @ 1080p. I have some clips and movies in 720p and 1080p, 23.97 fps, mpg format and they are 100% stutter free.

As far as I understand this MPEG wouldnt be handled by VDPAU (neither is DiVX unless you have a specific feature set card I understand) so it would work ok. I'm presently considering re-ripping my region 1 SD DVDs as ISO files to get around this issue but the file space used up (~8GB per movie as an ISO as opposed to ~1.6GB per movie as H264 MKV) along with issues such as forced subtitles is putting me off.

If the update path to the next version is likely to mangle my installation too much (I have a myth 0.22 front end on the same box and it doesnt play nicely with the new drivers or libvdpau Sad) then I'll probably just slam another TB disc in there and rip my Region 1 DVDs as ISOS and be done with it.

Hmm, don't know about that. I thinky my ION is way too slow to handle 1080p MPG movies, so it has to use some part of VDPAU I think.

Ahh, that'll teach me to reply without checking which posting it is I'm replying to!!! Laugh

Sorry I thought you were on a monster machine that could handle it via CPU didnt realise you also have an ION box.

Hmm...odd.

I thought VDPAU only handled H264 and .. some ... MP4. I thought LIBMPEG (?) handles mpeg 1 & 2. Can you go in whilst playing and hit 'o' and see if it says its using LIB VDPAU?

Was anybody able to finally fix this and get rid of this?
Code:
Decode - avcodec_decode_video didn't consume the full packet. size

I don't have the issue anymore. I've upgraded to Ubuntu 10.0, Nvidia 256.35, and XBMC 10.5 (Nightly SVN Build).

I have new issues now.. but this issue is gone Eek

I believe most if not all of my issues were user error. I have found the current SVN 10.08 to be very stable and it totally rocks .. Lucid takes a little getting used to... But again, mostly just user error.
