No sound? (Initialize - pcm_open_lconf, alsa error: -2)
#1
I've just installed XBMCBuntu (eg. Ubuntu Minimal + XBMC SVN) and I've also installed ALSA but compiled XBMC SVN with PulseAudio disabled.

Anyways, XBMC is working but it says it can't initialize my audio device and the log contains this error:

ERROR: Initialize - pcm_open_lconf, alsa error: -2 - No such file or directory

The full log is located here: http://pastebin.com/26kFZbdr

This is on the latest SVN (28778) but I had the exact same problem on XBMC Live and XBMCBuntu with the XBMC 9.11 PPA.

Also, "aplay -l" works and shows my HDMI Audio device (it's an Acer Revo 1600) and alsamixer works too...

Can anybody help me out?

EDIT: The solution was to add my user to the audio group and then it worked fine. If anybody is still reading this though, let me ask an unrelated question: is there any difference between Ubuntu Minimal and Ubuntu Server? Most XBMCBuntu guides say to use Ubuntu Server for some reason...
