why not just use a gig flash card instead of a 64 meg one? bigger cards can be had for less <$10.

it just seems like an awful lot of work

correct me if i am wrong, but i was under the impression a 64mb flash card would have the same form factor as a 1gig flash card.

well you can still have barbones while including an rpm manager. using yast on opensuse 11.2 using packman.links2linux.org repo i can install xbmc and mplayer like a cinch. using a portage(emerge gentoo) system instead of ubuntu(deb) or redhat or suse takes a lot longer. im just saying, u can have barebones including an easy way to update. i used a small linux distro, zenwalk linux and i liked cuz it has xfce and netpkg(apt-get). rpms are available for redhat, suse, and debs are available for ubuntu having to do with manually installing dependencies for xbmc on sites like packman.links2linux.org and rpmbuild. using a gentoo portage system with barebones im imagining would be more difficult to install the depedencies for xbmc. google "install xbmc from source" or "xbmc error configure", look at the posted logs for errors configuring, making install, things like shared_ptr(need to install/re-install gcc,g++), [checking for main in -lmysqlclient..no]libmysqlclient(search opensuse.org for libmysqlclient OR [http://packages.debian.org]search for deb files OR [packman.links2linux, http://www.rpm.org, rpmfind.net, http://rpm.pbone.net/ -- zenwalk is barebones small and uses netpkg rpm] . when i ran opensuse 11.1 i had to manually install rpm packages for dependencies to install xbmc, mplayer and some were easy; others were not. i had errors configuring xbmc from source on opensuse 11.1 --> http://forums.opensuse.org/applications/...1-1-a.html <-- SOMEONE HELP ME WITH MY POST --> search xbmc.org forums for "xbox 360 wont detect xbmc on linux" by ricksanon

Not until you learn how to break up you post into easily readable paragraphs Smile Seriously hit the return key a bit.

[i hate bad ebuilds:xmms, brand new ebuilds with a lack of documentation or forum, and clock skews]
havent used gentoo with xbmc, but xbmc is an ebuild now on gentoo, emerge xbmc [http://packages.gentoo.org/package/media-tv/xbmc]
^^
xbox 360 bans keep you from using the internet, but media center is local and works with windows. does an xbox 360 ban keep you from connecting to a pnp share?
