You might want to consider that this is not the default location for ppa. You can probably figure this out yourself but since your are still struggling you might want to re-install the live and then dont touch anyting.

argh.
Are you saying there is no way to recover the previous installation?

I had a similar problem. As many of you may remember, SMB networking is hosed in the live 9.11 repack iso, and the solution is to do an update.

Well, I built a 2nd machine and did the update to fix the smb issue, and while it was working said "heck, I may as well update my old machine too, so they will have the same software on em". Rebooted both and both failed.

One comes up with a microscopic box in the middle of the screen that is impossible to read except for the huge "quit" button on the bottom, and the other starts doing some crypto update on LIRC and hangs.

Starting over, sigh.....

found this link sounds like the same problem you have http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=54350&page=6

Well, my solution was found by using the xbmcfreak v13 iso repack and installing it. Fixed all the network issues from 9.11 repack, gave me (relatively) current version, both boxes are on the same software and everything works (mostly).

Now if I could only figure out how to put a DVD mount point in my video folder so I could go straight to the disk and browse the files I would be set. Smile

Anyway that wasn't very constructive as a comment.

(this is of no help either)

haha Smile

Anyways IF I (and by I, I mean WE) get it to work again, is there any way to add only certified repos that update only when everything is set so the average user doesnt get any errors?

Something like the last stable version, but more like "latest stable working and simple upgrade" LOL

You sound lazy and unwilling to do it the right way.

DONT do apt-get upgrade. Its not needed. If your movies play who cares if something stupid like man-db has a newer version (apparently you dont use it anyway).

For christ sakes you could have already reinstalled and been watching movies instead of trying to salvage your monumental unnecessary fuckup. It take a few minutes to reinstall and less than a few hours to scan scrape and download.

Now, that being said and out of the way. If you still insist on having the latest whatever it is you want.

Code:
sudo apt-get install synaptic ssh

Then you can ssh into your machine with x forwarding (assuming you have a linux box, I dont use windows so cant help you on this one if thats what you have)
replacing your IP and username
Code:

and run a gui apt program (synaptic) to see and click (I know you want it easy) the upgrades you want.

Code:
sudo synaptic

click the status button on the bottom left then choose upgradable on the left side. That will show you EVERYTHING that is upgradable and you can pick and choose.

Everyone borks their system (apparently some more than others)
learn from it and try not to repete it.

Anyway, THIS was a very constructive post for you. Take it or leave it.

Wow, ok no need to get all angry about this.
Anyway cheers for the tip, I'll try that and in case will re-install from scratch.
