Displaying menus with double-byte text?
#1
Question
I have a number of audio files with names written in Japanese, Chinese, French and Russian. The problem I have is that the some of the characters are being replaced with boxes, instead of their appropriate ideograms or symbols. These files display correctly in the Finder.

Is XBMC not defaulting to unicode for displaying text, or is this a a limitation of the font? Is there a way to get the text display properly?

Turns out the issue was due to the font and I found a modification that will fix it:

I am using "Transparency!" as a skin, and I had access the "arial unicode.ttf" font (this is a complete unicode font), so I replaced the "teen-normal.ttf" with "arial unicode.ttf". I just replaced the file with the same name.

There may be other ways to address this issue, but this worked for me.
