[LINUX] hanging on video playback
#1
Hi all,

I'm running XBMC (svn:26018) on Ubuntu 9.10. I've just got it running after a video card switcheroo (changed to an nVidia A320 card). Only prob now is that when I try to get a video to play back it just hangs up and needs its process killed.

When I say "hangs up" I mean that it (XBMC) sits on the screen where I've clicked the video file and is no longer responsive. It doesn't show the video or a black screen or whatever.

I had a look at 'top' when it's misbehaving and xbmc.bin is steady at about 78%. Other processes (xorg et al) more or less idling.

Hardware:
- cpu: AMD64
- vid: WinFast A320 (aka nVidia FX5700)
- ram: 2GB
- display resolution: 1920x1080

I've enabled debug logging and pasted a log file here (up to the point it hangs up). I monitored it for a few minutes to make sure that no further logs were being written:

I've tried it with a few different videos (ones that definitely run in XBMC on xbox) with the same result.

Interestingly it does the same thing with MP3 and photos. System monitor says the process is "sleeping" with the waiting channel "poll_schedule_timeout". That may be irrelevant but I thought I'd mention it.

Any clues on what might be going wrong?

small update: the media I was accessing was located on a network share. I tried moving a couple of sample items to the local HDD. Interestingly I got a small image to load, but a the video file I tried hung up the same way as before.

In the interests of brevity I pulled out the bit of the log where it actually tries to load the video. I can't see anything that jumps out as an error. It just doesn't appear to DO anything. Can anyone assist?
