Hello, sorry if this has been answered else where I did search but could not find a solution.

I have just got a htpc, and it has an nvidia ion graphics card. At the moment I cant get any sounds to work.

I have installed the latest xbmc from the live cd to my hdd.

I tried to follow the guide here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=59877

But when I do I get an error when I try to start up my HTPC saying xbmc needs hardware acceleration, check hardware or something along those lines.

Im not sure if its due to the fact that I am using the 190 drivers, if this is the case can anyone tell me how to donwgrade to earlier drivers. I am a total linux noob, so please be nice.

I tried to install some drivers that I donwloaded from the net, but kept saying I am running X server and need to close it.

I tried init 3 and then running the installer as someone suggested but I still got the same error.

Note: sorry for no Tag on post wasnt sure which one to use as installed from live cd to hdd.

Many thanks.

Tom

A very simple installer for XBMC live can be found here: http://www.xbmcfreak.nl/xbmcfreak-livecd-9-11-v14/

Just in case you do not want to poke around and learn Linux, but just want something that works.

If you browse around the xbmcfreak webpage and find the Lucid based version from April 23rd, do not use it, it is broken, stay with v14 for now.

I tried version 13 and audio still didn't work. I tried installing version 14 and it just wouldn't install just kept saying installing system then wouldn't actually do it.

I might redownload it and give it another try.

For everyone:

I have helped him set everything up...

1. download latest nvidia drivers
2. exit xbmc to terminal
3. install drivers with 'sudo sh' command
4. follow the installation procedure
5. reboot

should be fine now Wink
