g210 no audio over hdmi - linux noob needs help
#1
Sad
I've spent the past 2 days attempting everything i can find on the forums here and i cannot get audio over my hdmi.
My video card is a Gigabyte G210.
Audio works 100% in windows - so i know the hardware works.
I don't know my way around linux very well (at all)
Everytime i follow the "how-to's" and copy paste the commands i brick the install.
I have reinstalled XBMC Live 7 times already, and i have run out of threads on the forums here to try.

Can someone please point me to a step-by-step setup guide for dummies.
I don't want to go back to windows.

Here are a couple of the "guides" i've attempted to follow with no success:

just delete asound.conf in etc, that solved all my issues. Mine was an asus card, any other card and you might have to follow the wiki. In the audio settings set both options to hdmi.

here is the link that i followed.

I actually found that link early in my searching, but every time i try to update my Nvidia drivers to version 190 I get an error upon reboot stating that i do not have "openGL" drivers installed, and the system hangs.
I'll try to find an alternate way to update the driver i guess.
