Atom 330 Ion better than new atoms ?
#1
I was waiting for the new ion series to replace my old xbox/xbmc setup, but after reading several reviews its looks like replacing with a 510/nm10/ion2 setup seems a no go.

I think i will go for a Atom 330/Ion setup or a Atom 330 with a nvidia graphics card, but than I have to find a 330 board with pci-e 16 bus. Because intel has only mad 4 pci-e 1x lanes available on the new nm10 chipset it's not really an option for xbmc i think.

Anyone got a nice solution for a 330 with passive cooled nvidia card or should i just go for an 330/ion setup

Why would you want a nvidia graphics card when Ion is based on a GeForce 9400 and Ion 2 is based on a GeForce G210 both perfect for XBMC 720p/1080p when hardware decoding is used

So why do you say Ion 2 is a no go for XBMC

Ion 2 should slightly out perform the original Ion but also have other advantages, even if the gpu only has one PCIe 1.0 lane its still enough bandwidth for 1080p

Asus AT3IONT-I

http://uk.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=ZHofno9Kz03TkwXw

PCI-e x16 slot
DDR3 Memory
Geforce 9300 Graphics
HDMI audio

It's got the lot!

Regarding ION2, i wouldn't rule it out until it's released in mitx motherboard format and fully tested.

Cheers

I'm planning on getting that exact Asus 330 (they're ~£120 on ebay), then £20 for 2GB RAM. What size PSU does it need? will a £20 150W pico-style PSU do the trick?
